Woven Concrete Benches

2018

The 3D-printed concrete benches are part of an ongoing research project on additive manufacturing in all kinds of scales and materials. The benches are printed on site by using the waste material of regional quarries, thus creating a natural connection to the site through the local and highly individual color of the concrete. This exploration project was conducted in collaboration with the French start-up XtreeE.

Standard set of three benches. The archetype design is a U-shaped bench with a waved surface.

This texture is not only visually reminiscent to woven textiles, it also follows the same production routine: a continuous thread that is guided along a path in order to create a construction.

The benches’ parameters can be customized in order to adapt to the local requirements.

By coloring the used concrete material, the benches can be integrated into individual design concepts and adapted to different environments.
